The Brave Wilderness hosts and crew are professionally trained but receive assistance from animal experts and safety personnel when in potentially life-threatening situations. Permissions were obtained by the crew to film in all locations associated with this series. No animals were injured, killed, or removed from their natural habitat in the filming of this program and instances where animals are brought to the scene are clearly acknowledged in the video. Professional advice should always be sought before entering any dangerous environment, or before encountering any species of animal. Every precaution is taken to handle animals with care and in the least stressful way possible; expert opinions are often solicited when handling animals that may potentially inflict harm to any cast and crew.

Alligator gar are legal to keep .. One per day in most states that they live. Just saying.. If you're going to go over the bag limit or kil a fish just to kill it and not use it as bait or eat it.. Then you deserve to go to jail in my mind. With that said... They're all over in many areas and overly abundant.... Pretty hard not to catch one if you put a line in, in many areas. They taste great too. Though most people have this weird notion that they're not good eaters. This is very wrong. Not flaky like fish, more like chicken. They're a mix between poultry and fish in flavor. Not chewy at all. You can make some great patties out of them. Longnose gar are also very abundant in many areas. Hell here by me there's no bag or size limit on them. You're free to catch and keep all you want. There are hundreds of them sometimes in backs of marinas on cooler nights. They swim the surface chasing the smaller fish near lights. If people don't fish for them and keep these things in many areas, they will consume the entirety of their food supply, and drive themselves to extinction. They have no natural predators and are the top of the food chain in most areas that they're native too. Millions of years ago they had plenty of competition and far more species to consume. This is now. Not then. Though laws do need to ne followed. They're put in place for a reason. This is also central Ohio that I was speaking of about the longnose gar by the way. There are bag limits in other areas. Not around here though. I'm surprised that he hasn't seen a longnose before since they're all over Ohio and in pretty much every stream of decent depth. He's from central Ohio where they're overly abundant. We have no alligator gar here though unless they're stocked somewhere that I'm not aware of. They're not native here.

Hunters and fishermen are the biggest conservationists and have the most care and respect for the animals! They also are great at telling how strong a population is and the limits on permits and tags. All animals and fish should be closely watched and populations cared for. I think hunters and fishermen get a bad rap alot when they care just as much as the biologists!

We have tons of Gar pike where i live, along with muskee, northern pike, samon certain times of year, huge catfish, sturgen, some giant fish that i almost caught when i was younger that completely gutted a small shark pole, and out struglled my brother who though a teen easily benched 200 lbs at the time, wrapped his hand and arm in the line and tried to pull it in, lol he almost lost his hand no clue what it was but i have never seen another fish that big in the rivers where i live, noneless caught one and usualy the fish we catch are the size of me which is around 3-6' or so. Mostly catfish that big the lower end salmon gar, pike, muskee, so forth and so on.
