Walked right into a den of about 3 rattlers and 1 copperhead. The copperhead was right in front of me, couldn’t see it due to the camouflage...they blend in very well, too well. My friend saw it from a different height and angle. Didn’t get bit, and was able to walk away.

Indiana creeks and small rivers are riddled with these....I frequently take my kids with me exploring on the creek bottoms...we’ve found lots of snakes. Rat snakes, three different kinds of garter snakes, water snakes, copperheads, corn snakes, racers, ring neck snakes, and one water moccasin. Most of what we find is just a massive repeat of the list above with the exception of the water moccasin....but one day, one very lucky day, we will chance upon a timber rattler. So don’t feel bad coyote, it eludes people all over the place!!!

I was wearing lose shorts and I stood up quckly in most hot searing pain that I have ever had. There hanging and latched on to my junk was a three foot watermoccasin. My freind pulled it off. On the way to the hospital I was in so much pain I bit off part of tounge cracked some teeth. From my navel down to half way to knees it turned black. So now I cant have children. A snake in the leaves is almost impossible to see.

I've lived in Copperhead (and timber rattle) territory my entire *mumblemumble* years on this earth and I have never knowingly ran across one. They do their best to stay out of sight because it's way easier than the alternatives. Snakes way more scared of you than you are of them. they do their best to not even tangle with something (relatively) as big as a person. They don't want to waste their venom, and they don't even want to bite you if they can help it. Don't be a jerk and go looking for snakes for anything buy education and research. they just want to get on with their day.

Scared of snakes or not, be educated. While there are snake freaks like myself who love all serpents and are in genuine interest with these unique reptiles, there are also those who fear them. From childhood tales to first hand experience. I found that individuals who fear snakes often dont fully understand the creature that they have encountered. In general I feel that locals should get educated on their local venomous snakes, from potency of the snakes venom, what is their habitats, what to do when you encounter one or more. (Obvioulsy never approach a venomous snake in the wild.)

I didn’t know it was a snake till it moved and never knew what a copper head looked like but when you see it you know. It was terrifying but I slowly backed up because my dad always told me those may be venomous but they only attack when threatened.

Yes, here in our area, finding poisonous snakes is an arduous, dangerous experience, too. First you have to get in your car, then you have to drive somewhere out of town (where isn't important), then you have to find a place to park your car, then you have to get out and start walking away from your vehicle, keep your eyes on the ground at all times. In about 10 steps, you will see at least one poisonous snake, maybe more. Like I said, really arduous. Oh, be sure and shoot a video of the experience with dramatic music and dramatic narration. The little kids on youtube will love it. ;-)

I accidentally caught one for a neighbor who wanted me to relocate it off their lawn, both of us thinking it was a non-venomous snake. Fortunately, I caught it right behind the head and it never had the chance to strike at me. I had a pygmy rattlesnake strike at me, but it was a baby with a small head, ended up dazing itself by striking at and bouncing off my forearm (I actually chucked it away after that).
